Here we are at Day 8 of the 31 Days of Blogging Challenge.
Do your parents have any hobbies or obsessions? One of my Dads obsessions was kites. Specifically this one fancy kite he had. I have no idea where it came from or why he liked it so much but I can remember 9/10 times it didn’t work. One summer while we were vacationing at the beach he was DETERMINED to get this kite to fly. I remember we went to this fancy “Kite store” on the boardwalk and this guy helped him figure out his kite for what seemed like HOURS…I have no idea where my mom was and why my Dad took two young children with him to this kite shop because I remember being really bored.
I remember what he and the kite guy did didn’t make the kite fly that night and he went back to the kite shop several more times after the initial time (without us) and the kite still wouldn’t fly! I want to say the kite was deemed “too heavy” for flying after several more attempts.
One story my grandma LOVED to tell was of the time he was so busy trying to get the kite to fly he ended up wading out in the ocean (further than he thought he was) and he was so pre-occupied with the kite and waving at people that he ended up falling and losing his bathing suit. She always thought this story was really hilarious and even told this story at my dads wake (along with many other stories).
