I haven’t linked up with this link-up in awhile so thought this week was as good as any! I have been thinking and preparing for my upcoming trip to Europe and wanted to do a fun post about movies that have made me want to visit different places!
GREECE. My first stop on my European vacation is GREECE! When was the first time I ever wanted to go to Greece? Well when I read The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants books and then saw the movies…and then after the 2004 Summer Olympics were in Athens.
I am going to Greece as part of a Study Abroad program with my college and when we first met that was one of the questions, “Why do you want to go to Greece?” And I told them about this movie and The Olympics and a bunch of people (aka guys) laughed at me but for real the views in that movie are GORGEOUS! I was happy I wasn’t alone when I came across this blog post not long after that.
ROME, ITALY. Rome has always been on my heart since I’m Catholic but it’s in a lot of movies. It’s heavily featured in The Catholicism series and I remember wanting to go to the Trevi Fountain after seeing When in Rome. After looking for a picture from When in Rome I came across an older Olsen twin movie of the same name that I also remember seeing.
SALZBURG, AUSTRIA. The one place I REALLY want to go is Salzburg, Austria. Growing up I LOVED The Sound of Music. Salzburg was way out of our way from any of the cities we are going to be in but I’d love to one day go there and take a Sound of Music tour. I am trying to find someone willing to go with me before or after World Youth Day in 2016…
VERONA, ITALY. There are many cities in Italy that people say “you have to go to” Verona never really makes it onto any of those lists….but after I saw the movie Letters to Juliet I knew I HAD to go to Verona when I went to Italy. I think my day trip to Verona is one of the stops I’m looking forward to the most…
LONDON, ENGLAND. There are a TON of TV shows and movies that have taken place in London. I think I have to say that Harry Potter had the most influence on me. I’m even taking a Harry Potter walking tour in London. I also always enjoyed What A Girl Wants..and of course every child played London Bridge is Falling down as a kid.
I’m sure there are tons more TV shows and Movies that have inspired me over the years but these are the ones most prevalent in my mind. I really believe that traveling really helps you form as a person and it makes the history books come alive. I can remember driving across country seeing signs for all the different battles and cities that I learned in history class and being amazed that yes those really were REAL places.
I’m looking forward to the next month and seeing and learning more about all the places I have read about in books and movies for so many years in person! Be sure to follow my Europe Category to see all my blog posts about my trip as I’ll be blogging along the way!
