Welcome to all my new visitors that have found my blog from Conversion's Diary's 7 Quick Takes Friday Series! Over the weekend I will be posting a short summary about the new roman missal changes. Next week Mandi from The Catholic Newlywed will be posting about her perspective of the new roman missal and how we can prepare. For the next two 7 Quick Takes Fridays I will be going over the people's parts of the mass that are changing to help us prepare. (The bold blue parts are the changes)

NICENE CREED |
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered, died, and was buried. On the third day he rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. |
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power
of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. |

As you can see most of the changes aren't too extreme. Some of the prayers are now longer, some are shorter, and some are about the same. The biggest changes are to the creeds because that is where our beliefs are. Just remember just because some of the words have changed doesn't mean the MEANING of the prayers are changing. We still have the same faith the words are just changing to better translate from our latin roots.
Translation of the new missal in this blog came from Sadlier, Inc.
I'm going to have the hardest time with the changes in the Creeds! I'll be reading along carefully for quite some time!
omg I know! As it is half the time I just mumble the words! Maybe this time I’ll actually learn the real words! I feel bad for the priests. One of our priests keeps telling my mom he has been busy “studying” so he doesn’t have to read out of the books. I don’t think I could study one mass and perform the other mass at the same time!
Thanks for posting this! I have to agree, I'll have my nose in the book for a while to come because of this. Also, on #4 is the new change the way it used to be? For some reason I've always said 'Glory to you, O Lord' and then I realized that's not what everyone else says. Haha
Love the new layout by the way!
Thank you for posting this and for being open and sharing your Faith. One of my HUGEST pet peeves is Catholicism being represented by "non-practicing Catholics" what does that even mean??? GRR…
Found you on Ho along Friday and am now following:)
awesome! Thanks for following my blog! I agree everyone thinks that “people my age” aren’t really practicing and a lot of the older people don’t want us to do anything. But I feel that we all have a place in the church and need to be role models to the younger generations!
