I have been trying to finish these 7
Long Quick Takes for about 3 weeks now…like got crazy and I kept forgetting to finish them..on Friday and didn’t want to post them on Saturday or Sunday. So here we go!
It’s already AUGUST…I can’t believe how fast this year is going! I feel like Christmas is going to be here before we know it…I’m really looking forward to some cooler weather though.
For the past few years in October I have participated in the 31 Days of Blogging Challenge with The Nester. Usually I decide to join in at the last minute and come up with a topic on September 30th. This year I’m already ahead of the game and already thinking about what topic I want to blog about.
I’m thinking about doing it on my Virtual Assistant Blog in the organization category as well and then turn it into an auto responder series. So far I have no ideas for my series on this blog but I might join Kate Motaung in her 31 Days of 5 Minute Free Writes where we write about a different word for 5 minutes everyday.
We’ll see what I come up with…I still have 2 months to figure it out.
Over the past few weeks/months I got SUPER behind on podcasts. At one point I had over 40 hours of podcasts to listen to. I quickly got that down to about 25 by deleting a ton of outdated ones. I’m now down to only 3 hours which is just a miracle in itself. It does help that I know have a job now that allows me to listen to them while I work.
Kendra over at Catholic All Year wrote a great post about boycotting companies that donate to Planned Parenthood. I wrote a similar post a few years ago and she did a much better job at saying what I attempted to say.
The best point she made was that we live in a Pagan World and boycotting isn’t really helping us evangelize our beliefs. Also you don’t go asking the handyman that fixed your washer what he thinks about abortion and gay rights…so why are we making a big deal about our local grocery store? Well Said.
NFP Awareness Week was a few weeks ago. I saw a few different blog posts pop up. I wrote a post about learning about NFP from a single persons point of view a few years ago….it’s still relevant so go check it out here.
I finally got around watching the Kelly File Interview with the Duggar girls from about 2 months ago now (along with being behind on podcasts my DVR also got very full).
I don’t want to start a bunch of controversy on this blog about it but watching that interview was just so hard/sad/heartbreaking. I’m just so sad for everyone. Sad that it happened. Sad that they had to deal with it. Sad that the report was released and all the tabloids printed articles about it and that they had to revisit the situation all over again. I really hope they are staying off the internet and avoiding comment boxes…as I can’t even handle those and it’s not even about me.
No matter what the truth is and what I think about the situation I’ll continue to keep the family in my prayers because I know they definitely can use them.
I easily get overwhelmed which sometimes frustrates me. I have all these things I need to do and then I end up doing nothing except waste time playing games on my phone or hang out on social media.
I’m really working on being more productive about this especially as I have been slacking on promoting my blog and others. I have created a bunch of spreadsheets in google docs for what types of posts I want to share on Facebook.
Another thing I have been working on is a HUGE Blog Reorganization. I have perioscoped on this a few times this past week. Last week I read a blog post by about a Content Calendar by my friend Debi. As I was reading this post she said you should have 5-8 Blog Topics or Categories that you blog about on your blog.
As I read that it made a ton of sense she even then went on to talk about how she created this google sheet that she color coded with her different categories. I loved this idea so I sat down with a Google Sheet and my Blog Categories thinking this would be no big deal…boy was I wrong. I had over 60 categories on my blog!
I slowly went through all my categories. I deleted some, merged some, and recategorized A TON and came up with the following 8 topics for my blog.
I’m still a work in progress and need a TON more cleanup but I’m glad I have some direction right now in terms of my blog topics.
P.S. Many of you are probably wondering what is Periscope? Periscope is a video app where you can broadcast what you are doing or a short video on a specific topic. You can interact, ask questions, and leave hearts for the people giving the video. Follow me on Periscope @BethAnnesBest
What have you been up to? Have you spent the summer reanalyzing your blog and doing some cleanup? Do you need to do some but are avoiding it? It’s okay I’ve been there!!
