Today’s 31 Days of Free Writes word is STORM.
Throughout my life I have lived in many places with storms. They have made me feel different things at different times. Sometimes they made me sad or annoyed because they ruined my plans. Other times they made me sleepy. Sometimes they don’t bother me. I rarely let the weather prevent me from going somewhere. I have been to Disney and other Amusement Parks in the rain before and it’s been fun and always includes a crazy story at the end. The only time rain ruined my plans was when what I was doing was TOTALLY outside (like swimming activities) and got rained out or it was also thundering and lightning.
I vaguely remember when I was in 5th or 6th grade I had to do a project about plants you found outside. I remember you were supposed to go outside into your backyard or neighborhood and observe different types of plants and write down scientific things like what color they were. I remember we were given about a week or so to do the project and it had been raining almost everyday since the assignment had been assigned.
We were in the last few days before the project was due and only a few people had actually turned it in. I remember everyone was complaining how they hadn’t been able to do it because of all the rain. I remember telling my mom about this situation and she said something about how that was dumb excuse and everyone knows what is in their backyard to just quit making excuses and do the assignment.
I don’t remember much of the assignment and I’m thinking I needed more information than I could remember by looking out the window and didn’t like her answer. So I went into my room put on rain boots, a rain jacket, a hat and got an umbrella and took some paper and a magnifying glass and went outside in the pouring down rain and got the information I needed for my project.
My mom watched me from the window and probably rolled her eyes at me. I remember the next day kids thought I was nuts for going out in the rain to get it done..but apparently my nerdy tendencies started way back in elementary school.
