Today’s 31 Days of Free Writes word is PERHAPS.
I feel like there is a disney movie or song that uses the word “PERHAPS” a lot but I fail as a disney addict as I searched for it and couldn’t find anything. For some reason I feel like it was Pooh Bear or Mary Poppins. I did find a song called “PERHAPS, PERHAPS, PERHAPS.” That has been redone a few times in recent years.
When I have been writing these word posts I have to be honest that I kind of cheat. I sometimes read a few others posts on the word first for some ideas. Especially on days like today when I’m not very creative and thinking, “What the heck am I going to write on the word perhaps?!!?”
One thing I noticed after reading Holly and Kate’s post is the word perhaps sounds like a positive word but when you really analyze the way it is used it’s pretty negative.
Perhaps one day I will exercise more. Perhaps one day I will go through my attic. Perhaps one day I will stop procrastinating on my perhaptions and actually do the things I wish to do.
I probably use the word perhaps often in many of the similar cases above. And I know in some cases it’s okay because sometimes I am using the word to dream. “Perhaps one day I will get married and have children.” But many times I think I am just using the word to procrastinate things I should have done yesterday.
I listen to Father Mike Schmitz’s homily podcasts just about every week he records them and in Sundays homily he talked a lot about procrastination. He works at a college and his homilies are for the campus ministry masses so that which will help you understand the following scenario.
He mentioned how we’ll have clothes on the floor and instead of picking them up and doing laundry or putting them in the laundry basket we’ll just walk around them..until it gets so bad that sometimes we’ll even wear the dirty clothes again because we haven’t done laundry. When picking up the clothes in the first place would only take about 20 seconds and really isn’t that hard. Made me think how perhaps and procrastination really aren’t all that different from each other.
