7 Quick Takes {Volume 29}

— 1 —

Earlier this week I finished first The Kingdom Keepers book (there are 7 so far). I highly recommend this series to any Disney Lover.

Completing this allowed me to check off the FIRST item on my 30 Before 30 list. YAY!! While crossing it off my list I realized I had actually completing another one on accident – Start a 401k/Retirement account. I was notified last week that I was automatically enrolled into a 401k plan since I have been there so many days. It’s a VERY low percentage of my pay but it’s something.

— 2 —

I read this post earlier this week and it really made me think. It’s about the phrase “said no one ever” that we see on different internet meme’s. Usually I just laugh along but there have been a few times I’ve seen some meme’s where I don’t agree with it. It was an interesting read and gave me some perspective.

— 3 —

May sweeps has come and gone and it’s weird I have very few things to watch on TV. It’s been a very quiet week…

— 4 —

My mom was at a conference this week. I was supposed to go with her but didn’t want to have to take a whole week off work so soon after starting and because of how we booked the flight we couldn’t change the flight. She got to meet a bunch of big catholic speakers/authors like Joe Paprocki and Father Robert Barron

— 5 —

Remember back in Lent I did #40DaysOfPhotos? I’m working on doing an update now that Easter is over. I am working on downloading all the photos and doing an updated post soon. My blog ideas haven’t been very good the last few months.

— 6 —

I joined the club and joined VINE. Here is my first video and yes you can’t be a #CrazyCatLady without videos of cats :)

Pierre looks so pathetic in this video..poor thing. We’ve been having work done on our bathroom this week and they are so traumatized from all the strangers coming in and out. I’m still trying to figure out how to find people/follow people on vine. So if there is a trick besides just searching through millions of people let me know.

— 7 —

I hope everyone has a Happy Memorial Day. We don’t have much planned for the weekend. I might go to the beach or the springs though :)

Last weekend my sister got ENGAGED! You can watch a video of it here if you wish. They haven’t picked a date but I think it’s going to be Fall of 2014 which gives us a lot of time to plan. We have already started some pinterest boards here and here. At least now I can pin wedding things without feeling guilty.

THE BLING

— 2 —

This is all new territory for me. My sister asked me to be her Maid of Honor (I knew she would, among our differences we still love each other). But that means I need to host a bridal shower and bachelorette party for her. I know NOTHING about hosting parties. I’ve never done this before so this will be an interesting experience for everyone involved.

— 3 —

I have no idea where I found this link but it is 13 Things You Didn’t Know About Wheel of Fortune. I found it really interesting. AKA this is useless information no one should know about a gameshow. Enjoy. Sidebar: They talk about the touchscreen TVs they use for the “letters” I remember when they moved from the letters she had to flip over to the touch-screens. I was watching with my grandpa and he said, “Well she probably got tired flipping all those letters! Look how much easier this is!”

— 4 —

I read a post earlier this week about Online Dating. I’ve dabbed in it here and there. But this post just made me laugh. There is LITERALLY a dating site for EVERYONE. Even if you’re married this post will give you a laugh.

— 5 —

Summer school started last week. Man is summer school fast. The sessions are super short (6 weeks each). I’m thinking about not even doing Summer 2 because 20 chapters in 6 weeks sounds more like torture than education. The class I’m taking now is only taught in summer and there is only 7 chapters so it’s just a chapter a week which I can manage. I think I’m going to use summer 2 time off to work on backed up blog stuff and website stuff I never have time for. I know I say this all the time and never do it lol

— 6 —

Last weekend I also went on a Retreat. The retreat was AWESOME!! It was exactly what I needed to hear at exactly the right time. Funny how god works like that? Interestingly enough it was a lot of married couples and then college kids. Hard to tell who was with who and such. But Jackie went through a singleness and just knows what it’s like and it just made me feel that much better about being single in this stage of my life. Made me feel like it’s not a bad problem like so many people make it out to be. I took a bunch of notes and am working on making them into blogposts in the coming weeks.

— 7 —

My mom is leaving tomorrow for a Catechetical Conference. I was supposed to go with her since I wasn’t working at the time she registered but I got a job since then which is good. I didn’t want to start and then have to ask for time off. I’m kind of sad because it’s in Ohio and I was going to meet up with some of my awesome #CathSorority and twitter friends. And we were going to take a day to go to Cedar Point! Oh well maybe next year. One cool thing my mom gets to do is go to a special breakfast with Father Robert Barron about his new video series since she registered early!!

For once I have a lot planned for the weekend! Tonight is Confirmation. Then my mom and I are driving down to where the Retreat i I’m going on tomorrow is being held (about 2 hours away). Since the event she had planned for Sunday fell through we decided to make a weekend out of it and got a hotel room for Saturday night and Sunday night as well since I’m off on Mondays. AKA she feels bad for me that I don’t get to go away this summer since I just started a job and can’t take off. #CatholicGuilt FTW

— 2 —

I’m really looking forward to the retreat and meeting Jackie Francois since I’ve heard such awesome things about her. I’m also looking forward to hanging out with other Catholic Young Adults. I love that they have “small group time” on the retreat schedule. So many times people host conferences/retreats with awesome speakers and you never meet other people because it’s all big group stuff.

— 3 —

One of the things on my 30 Before 30 list was to send 5 PostCrossing postcards. I have seen Jen tweet about sending them and have been really intrigued. I finally created an account and it’s really cool. The first person I get to send a card to is from Russia! Now I just need to go to downtown and buy postcards and stamps. I think this is an appropriate time to buy the new Florida stamp that just came out!

— 4 —

Speaking of my 30 Before 30 I have several of them in progress. I like having this little list of goals I can be working on. Makes me feel somewhat accomplished. Last year I had started a 101 things to do in 1001 days but it was WAY too hard to come up with 101 things I wanted to do. 30 was much more doable. Maybe I’ll work up to 101.

— 5 —

Next Thursday is the Series Finale of The Office. I’m just going to put this out there. I know I’m gonna cry. I’ve watched the show from practically the beginning. My college roommate/church friends got me into it and I’ve loved it ever sense. After I graduated and got an office job the show started making 10x more sense and I loved it even more. At least I can get nostalgic and watch old seasons on Netflix :)

— 6 —

Twitter Parties and chats are going to get very interesting in the next few weeks. Tweethat officially doesn’t work and I tried to use Tweetgrid earlier and it wasn’t working :( Those are two great tools that really help in managing twitter parties. I haven’t heard if there are any other tools coming out that will help with twitter chats and actually WORK with twitter. I guess in the coming weeks we’ll find out.

— 7 —

Sometimes I never realized how much of a file horder I am. With huge hard drives and multiple computers sometimes I forget to clean out computer files. Well I was forced to do this as I got an alert that my dropbox was COMPLETELY FULL! It had a big X and stuff wasn’t syncing. So I had to clean it out, and delete stuff. Half the stuff in the file I had two and 3 copies of! Crazy! So I went through all the files and now it’s only 50% full. A main issue was I had a ton of photos in it that I moved to my hard drive and eventually will move to my portable HD. Yes I know I have such an exciting life. Maybe next week I’ll work on my email inboxes. Talk about a mess.

7 Quick Takes {Volume 26}

My apologies for the really strange quicktakes. I started writing these last week and then we lost power and I never finished them. So this is 2 weeks of quick takes :)

— 1 —

I’m SUPER excited for next weekend. Why you may ask? Because I’m going on a retreat!! I try to go on a retreat once a year so this ended up working out great.

I have been reading about Jackie Francois for about a year. I’ve also been reading her and her fiance’s blog for several months and LOVE everything they write. I also really like her music. So combine that with a super cheap retreat and you have a combination for a great weekend. It is kind of far about 2 hours away but I don’t even care at this point. I need an excuse to get away even if it’s just for 1 night. I couldn’t find anyone to go with me but my mom might drive down with me so I don’t have to drive by myself and so we can get yummy Chinese food on the way home.

— 2 —

Last weekend I went to a local meetup as part of (In)Courage’s (in)RL Conference. It was a lot of fun and I blogged about it earlier this week here.

— 3 —

Ever since I got a twitter account for my blog I never liked it. The username I wanted @CatholicCouponer was taken (and more annoyingly taken and INACTIVE!) so I settled with @TheCatholicCoup. But people kept asking me if I worked with Chickens or Homeschool Co-ops. When I started this blog I left it alone but last weekend I finally decided I needed a change so I changed it to @BethAnnesBest. It’s more of what I write and tweet about anyway. If you already follow me you don’t have to do anything so don’t worry.

— 4 —

I found this recipe for homemade cat treats. I’m thinking about trying to make them and see if my cats eat them. They look pretty simple with ingredients we have regularly or that are regularly on sale.

— 5 —

Interesting Fact: Morocco is the only country in the world where goats due to lack of grass and trees to climb there whole herds graze. I saw Jen post this last week and I thought it was fake. I went and youtubed it and found this video….sooo crazy!!

— 6 —

Everyone go wish Emily congratulations as she’s getting MARRIED tomorrow!! I’ve been following her blog since she got engaged so I feel like I have lived through her engagement with her and I’m super excited for her big day and will vicariously living through the wedding via social media on twitter, instagram and facebook.

— 7 —

Last weekend my sister bought this HUGE stuffed dog at a thrift store. She put him outside on the patio (I think because he didn’t fit in the washing machine and needs to figure out how to wash it). Well look who decided he would make it his new bed?

Every time someone goes near the backdoor Milo meows and runs to the door in hopes you’ll open it and let him outside to sleep on his “bed.”

My Missing Community

Over this past weekend I participated in (in)RL through (in)Courage. I went to a local meet-up and everything. Even though I didn’t know anyone there and was at the youngest “stage of life” (in my opinion) it was still fun to see people in person verses on the internet. The theme of the weekend was Community and I LOVED this theme. It brought me back to the following bible verse:

“For wherever two or three are gathered in my name, there am I, in their midst.”
~ Matthew 18:20 ~

You may be wondering WHY did I think the theme was a great idea? I have a secret. I’ve been learning about the IMPORTANCE of Community since COLLEGE. The first college I attended was run by The Marianists (Society of Mary). One of the things I LOVED about their mission was how important Community was to them. This is what their about section has to say about Community:

People of Community
Marianists believe that living, praying and supporting one another in community enriches their faith and strengthens their ability to meet world challenges – especially problems associated with poverty and ignorance.

I was only at that college for 2 short years but I learned so much from the brothers on that campus. Every Tuesday they opened their home to the students on campus for evening prayer and dinner. In everything that went on at the university they talked about community. Between the classes, the groups, and the retreats. It was really a stepping stone to how I view Community today. I had never seen anyone take Community so seriously.

So when I saw that (in)Courage’s focus was on Community I knew I had a lot of information to contribute. As much as a loner and introvert that I am I really do CRAVE Community. I crave talking, listening, and being with other physical people. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE all my internet communities and wouldn’t give them up for the world but I get really depressed and tired of sitting at home on Friday night..alone..bored..sulking..and feeling sorry for myself while everyone else is out and about with something to do.

So when I saw in one of my InCourage groups about this event and that there would be local meet-ups around the world I ran at the chance to participate. At first the closest one was in Orlando and the leader of one of my facebook groups was hosting it. Then several months later the lovely Karena decided to host a meet-up closer to where I live. I was very happy I didn’t have to drive as far.

I’ll have to admit at first it was kind of scary. I was driving to the house of someone I had only communicated briefly with on Facebook. Her and all the other people on the facebook event page seemed harmless enough. However this isn’t the first time I’ve met someone from a facebook group so I wasn’t that worried.

I don’t have any pictures of the decor or anything from the meetup as I really didn’t think to take photos other than the group photo someone at the event took. We even made it to (in)Courage’s link-up blog post about the event!

In the end it was a really fun afternoon. I don’t get out much and I don’t leave my Catholic Circles that much except for the classes I take at school and work. But socializing in those two places is kept at a bare minimum. And I’m still so new at my job I’m really careful how much I share as I don’t want to freak anyone out (yet). So it really brought me a lot of perspective to hear from other Christian women. We may not go to the same church but we all love and honor the same Jesus.

One of the great things about this event is that (in)Courage did all the work for us! All we had to do was show up. We didn’t have to think about what to talk about amongst the topic of Community. They created WONDERFUL videos on the topics for us to watch. I forgot to mention this earlier but it was really a 2 day event. Friday night everyone sat at home, watched, and tweeted about what they saw. I didn’t see everything as everyone in my house was home while I watched and I had a few interruptions, but what I saw was wonderful. The heartache and joy some of the speakers talked about I could really relate to. And at the same time I am thankful I have never been that hurt by any Christian/Catholic groups I have belonged to over the years.

On Saturday when we met up (in)RL there were several more videos for us to watch. One was about the program Hello Mornings. Which uh is NOT for me. If you are a morning person you should definetely check it out. I’m lucky I get up on time let alone getting up 1-2 hours before I have to.  The concept is nice but right now I’ll pass on it. Maybe they will create a Hello Moon program and then I can join. But the second video we watched was about Mentoring. At first I was really confused how Mentoring and Community went hand in hand. But after watching the entire video it made a lot more sense. We all need mentors and we all need mentees. While watching I tried to think of a mentor (besides my mom) and I really couldn’t think of 1 person but I think there have been many people throughout my life that have been mentors to me even if I didn’t realize it back then. Especially in my college years. I had a lot of professors, priests, religious, adults, etc. come in and out of my life during my 5 years of college that have helped me along the way. I may not have been able to see it then but now and in years down the road I think I’ll be able to understand it more. I also think of all the people I communicate with online. There are soo many inspiring people I talk with especially in #CathSorority. I’d like to think that I can look to some of them as mentors and that I return the favor to some of my younger members as a mentor. Even if it’s not a serious mentor-mentee relationship that we saw in the video. I think some of the best mentoring relationships are our of coincidence.

One thing that this section made me think about was about being true and genuine to everyone you meet. You may teach a class in 2013 and barely get through to the students in your class and 20 years later they may contact you or see you in the grocery store and thank you for the class you taught and how it changed their life.

I really enjoyed this program that (In)Courage created. Many of the speakers will be speaking at Allume in October and I’m even more excited for October. The inRL program was a wonderful way to meet new people I never would have met otherwise and I hope that we stay in touch and meet-up again in the nearby future. I’m already looking forward to next year when we get to do it all over again! If you want to find out more about the program visit (in)Courage’s website.

5 FAVORITES {Volume 2}

Our new TOASTER. Yes it’s the little things. Our last toaster, I would put waffles in on the highest setting and they would be ICE COLD! Then we would put toast in it and it would burn. It was time for a new one.

Where is a wedding registry when you need one?

— 2 —

This video. My blogging friend Bellesouth posted this last week on her facebook page.  It is about what happens to the water when you wring a washcloth in Space (remember no gravity up there). It’s just sooo cool to see what happens to the water before and after the experiment.

— 3 —

Matt Maher’s NEW CD! When I saw him in concert back in March he played some of the new songs and they had the CD on sale for pre-order. I kid you not this CD arrived in the mail on the exact release day! I’m loving it. The whole CD is also on Spotify for those that want to listen :)

24 Cats That Are So Single Right Now. This BuzzFeed article is HILARIOUS!! Especially if you are a CrazyCatLady go look at them.

“Why does everyone look at me like this when they find out I’m single?!”

Last weekend I FINALLY made these awesome Bacon Wraps. My old boss made them for our Christmas Party and she gave everyone the recipe. Well I had bought everything for the recipe and then I lost the recipe so I didn’t know how to make it. Well I finally found the recipe and made them over the weekend. OMG they are sooooo good. I will need to post a full blog post on these soon.

— 1 —

This week has been busy but at the same uneventful when it comes to writing quick takes.

— 2 —

Yesterday a girl in one of my classes and I got together and FINISHED our group project. The project was such the never ending project I didn’t think we would EVER finish! I’m so glad it’s done, the ppt is made, and turned in with 3 days to spare!! Now to just finish all the other work that is due before next Wednesday.

— 3 —

I officially am DONE with Google Reader! I imported my Google Reader into both Bloglovin and Flipboard. Originally I was only using Flipboard but the problem is flipboard is only an app (they really need a web version). So I was only reading blogs on my ipad and if I needed to leave a comment I would have issues and I would forget by the time I go to my computer so I’m using both for now. The nice thing about Bloglovin is they email me my daily updates.

— 4 —

One con of reading blogs on my ipad late at night is I’m not always coherent to what I’m actually reading. Like the other night I accidentally bought a subscription to Rachael Ray’s Magazine because I read how it was only $5 on amazon. Granted it was only $5 but the next day I was like wait…did I REALLY just do that?

— 5 —

Remember back pre-lent I wrote about these cool Lent Calendars? Well I had a MAJOR #LentFail this year as I found the calendar buried in a pile last week with only having 1 week done. Ooops…well there is always next year right?

— 6 —

This week I have realized I need to do some MAJOR digital cleanup. I am starting to see people on my newsfeed that I have NO IDEA who they are or why I am friends with them. Now a bunch of them are probably people I friended back in the day when I needed Farmville neighbors. Yes I was one of “those” people.  Then after someone asked what kind of facebook groups I was in I had to go look and I was in over 75 groups!! After looking at them I hadn’t even HEARD of half of them (aka people added me without asking). So last night I went through them all and I got it down to about 35. I probably could get rid of some more but we’ll see. I don’t use them all everyday but some are nice to have for when I need them.

— 7 —

A girl at work saw this on pinterest or facebook earlier this week and we all busted out laughing. I thought it was sooo true!!

7 Quick Takes {Volume 24}

— 1 —

I’ve been busy this week!! I wrote 3 posts this week! I joined the band wagon and linked up about my 5 Favorites. I also decided to be like the cool kids and wrote a 30 Before 30 post (I turn 30 in 3 years). Let’s see how many of them I accomplish. Thank you blogging friends Mandi & Cat and the interwebs for all the ideas. And last but not least I finally finished writing a reflection on The Eucharist & The Eucharistic Congress I went to a few weeks ago.

— 2 —

I’m trying something new. Now that I have about a 20-30 minute commute to and from work and the radio stations around here are awful I’m going to start listening to audiobooks. I checked out a few from the library this week so we’ll see how this goes. A few years ago when I had about the same commute I started doing this and I really enjoyed it. I used to love reading but it’s just hard for me to get into reading these days. I’m reading stuff for work and school all day. So I’m going to try audiobooks for now.

— 3 —

Another new thing I am trying is to listen to more podcasts. I found a bunch of Catholic ones that I’ve started listening to and a lot of them are actually really good and even funny! So far my favorite is The Catholic Guy Show.

— 4 —

Apparently my blogging about Milo and Pierre is one of the 7 Deadly Sins of Catholic Blogging. OOPS. But they are attention fiends and want to be showcased online. They even sit on the computer. You mean that doesn’t mean they want to be on the internet? What is dumb is if I posted pictures of my kids no one would care. Oh well…moving on…

— 5 —

I have a blogging friend on facebook and her church celebrated baptisms and dedications last weekend. She posted some photos and linked to the churches facebook page. They had several photos from the weekend and this was one of them.

BAPTISM

When I first saw it I was like wait that is how Catholics are baptized! And then it all became so clear why Catholics honor the baptisms of other christian faiths. We’re all baptized in the name of the father and the son and the holy spirt (the trinity). So many days I read thing things online about other religions and everyone is just bashing one another and talking badly about one another about how their religion is better than mine. But just for one moment I felt connected to this church and these baptized people and thought how else can we work together in christ verses against?

— 6 —

I went and looked at my stats earlier and looked to see at what search terms people have used to find my blog. Lots of interesting stuff. A lot of people seemed to find my blog during lent for terms like “lent diet” “lent calendars” in many different forms. Here are some of my favorites:

Beth anne’s Finest
Beth Annes Finest churcH (I guess she has a church)
Cute yolo
yolo cat meme
are there any pictures of the tabby cat who warmed baby jesus in the manger (I know I’m a crazycatlady but you can’t make these things up)
autumn giraffe in labor (remember her?)
athens vbs ideas + pinterest (yes that is what we are doing for VBS this summer now I know I need to write some posts of our ideas!!)
Disney Catholic Speakers (I do love disney and being catholic but i’m not really sure what this is even supposed to mean!!)
And my favorite one so far: MY HOPES AND DREAMS TEN YEARS FROM NOW

— 7 —

Have a great weekend! I hope it is 1000000X more exciting than mine as I’m going to do a lot of nothing followed by nothing and some homework.

30 Before 30

I just turned 27 a few weeks ago (ahh I’m getting old!!) I’m only 3 years from turning the big 3-0!! I decided to create a list of things I’d like to accomplish before then. I came up with some fun things, adventurous things, spiritual things, and just ridiculous things! So here goes nothing!

30 Before 30

  1. Go to Europe – Rome, Greece, Paris I want to see it all!! I hope to have at least 1 European trip under my belt.
  2. Go Parasailing – I’ve always wanted to do this ever since I was in high school (maybe even middle school). Cat told me to watch Grouponfor deals so I’m going to be watching over the next few years. I’ve also heard that if you stay at all-inclusive resorts it’s sometimes included. Tons of people have told me it’s a waste of money and not to do it but I still want to do this so badly!!
  3. Go on a cruise – We’ve talked about doing this for years hopefully we’ll finally do it in the next few years.
  4. Pay off at least 50% of my debt
  5. Create a saving account of $5,000.
  6. Start a 401K or some type of Retirement Account. (The new part-time job I started 3/2013 has a 401k program I enrolled in).
  7. Move out and live on my own or buy a house/condo/townhome (or do a volunteer year in something I will enjoy doing i.e. accounting).
  8. Finish my A.S. degree in Accounting (14 classes left as of 4/13)
  9. Get married or at least go on a few dates.
  10. Finish the memorial site I started making in memory of my Dad.
  11. Create a donation fund/scholarship at my alma mater in memory of my Dad or donate money in his memory
  12. Paint something at Painting With A Twist.
  13. Learn how to make Homemade Cheesecake
  14. Take a cooking class. (I’d really LOVE to take this Dum Sum Class at Publix)
  15. See 15 Theatre Shows (Broadway/Community Theatre) {0/15}
  16. Buy a new car (or new to me)
  17. Visit all the Free museums in St. Augustine.
  18. Take a road trip to the Midwest of states I have never been to (ex. Cedar Point, Mall of America!)
  19. Find a local group (church, singles, professional, etc.) and actually attend the meetings, make new friends, and consider myself a member vs a browser.
  20. Read a Graphic Novel
  21. Read some of the fictional books about Disney (Kingdom Keepers, Cast Member Confidential, Bamboo Publishing Books, etc.)

Finished reading Kingdom Keepers Book 1 5/20/13 (starting Book 2)

  1. Complete a 365 Project to document a year of my life.
  2. Light a candle in 10 new Catholic Churches {0/10}
  3. Read 5 Spiritual Books
  4. Pray the Rosary everyday for a month (maybe stick a novena in there)
  5. Send & Receive 10 Postcrossings and make a scrapbook out of them.  SENT: {4/10} RECEIVED: {0/10}
  6. Leave an inspirational note inside a book for someone to find
  7. Complete a Wreck This Journal
  8. Be in 2 places at once
  9. Send a message in a bottle

5 FAVORITES {Volume 1}

The last few weeks I’ve been seeing tons of people link up to this link-up (although I didn’t realize it was a link-up until last week). So I decided to be one of the cool kids and join the link-up myself! So here goes nothing!

— 1 —

My uNu iPhone Case/Charger. I LOVE this case. My iPhone is ALWAYS dying esp at work because my office gets really bad service and this battery case gives me at least 1 extra charge while I am out and about! This case also comes in handy at Disney ;) and this case is also really durable. I got it on sale from nomorerack. I’ve also seen it discounted at woot.

— 2 —

THE OFFICE. I absolutely LOVE this show. And in May when the show ends for good I know I will cry. I love that this show is on Netflix and I will sit there and rewatch my favorite seasons (Seasons 1-4) over and over again. Also after working in an actual office the last few shows several of the things that happen on this show really happen in real life!

— 3 —

Fruit Loops with Marshmallows. When I was a kid my favorite cereals were Alphabits with marshmallows and Luckycharms but only because they had the teeny tiny marshmallows in them. My real favorite was Fruit Loops. Now they have combined my two favorite parts of cereal into 1 awesome cereal.

— 4 —

FLIPBOARD. This is my favorite app for reading facebook, instagram, twitter, and blogs (google reader). Heck you can read ANYTHING you want on this app including news stories. It’s soo awesome. The best part is it makes reading “the web” like reading a magazine.

— 5 —

The 24 Hour Starbucks. I’m a night owl by nature. Blame my parents who are BOTH super night owls. And I live at home. And I’m in school. Oh yeah and my bedroom is the living room. I get next to NOTHING done at home so I spend many nights at the 24 hour Starbucks as everything else around here closes at 9pm (including the school library – still can’t figure that one out).
