Ash Wednesday has come and gone and it is officially LENT! Welcome to the first week of my lenten #40LentPrompts link-up. Day 1 – Ash Wednesday – Share about your Ash Wednesday experience, share your #AshTag
My Ash Wednesday was interesting. First I work in a restaurant and they were baking Bacon in the restaurant all morning. Man that was torture!!
Then my boyfriend and I went to one of the Ash Wednesday’s services and on our way to church we passed the Methodist church and there was a guy outside with a table and a sign that said “Ashes To Go.” I had heard of things like that but wasn’t expecting to see it locally.
After church we went for dinner at a local italian/pizza place and the girl giving out free saples on the street asked us what the ashes were as she’s seen a lot of people with them today.
That was the first time that ever happennedĀ to me. So we told her that it was Ash Wednesday and the starting of Lent. She looked SO CONFUSED. Then we went on to say how the priest blessed them and it represents our sins and it marks 40 days before Easter. And she said, “Ok.” but she still seemed very confused.
I wasn’t even sure if she knew what Easter was. Poor girl. I am going to keep her in my prayers this Lent as it seems like she may not have ever stepped inside a church but who knows.
This week I am going to make a soup for Friday. I haven’t decided if I am going to make this Tomato Basil Soup or this Brocolli Cheddar Soup. I also want to try and make a mushroom soup this Lent in the next few weeks. I had Eggplant today and have an eggplant to fry up to bake later on in the month.
As an Italian I tend to eat a lot of Italian food and soups for Lent. Lots of times I have egg salad but I currently have high cholesterol so I need to be careful on my egg intake. We’ll see what else I have this year.
Looking forward to reading everyone’s posts!
Beth Anne, I think I was able to do the link up after-all. I’m still not sure what the hashtag is for. Thanks for your patience with me. Now I’ll get busy with Day 2.
oh the hashtag is just if you share on instagram or twitter. Thanks for joining looking forward to reading!

I have never heard of ashes to go. At work a co-worker pointed out that another co-worker had something on his forehead, when he said it was ashes she turns to me and asks where’s mine, because apparently I’m the token Catholic in the office. I pointed it out to her, I went to the 6:30 am Mass and this was after 2 in the afternoon and it was faded, I think the guy went over his lunch hour.
Those soups look good.

I had never heard of Ashes to Go until a few years ago when I heard about some people on social media share photos. One girl saw a guy at a subway station giving out ashes and another girl shared that at the hospital her husband was working in had a bowl of ashes with a sign next to it. Apparently they use it as a big evangelization tool in some protestant religions.
Yeah depending on your skin sometimes they don’t last very long. I almost always go in the evening as I’m not a morning person so I rarely have to wear them to work although I think it can be a fun conversation starter.
