HELLO from South Carolina!! I’m at the Allume conference this weekend and I can’t believe this weekend is finally here!!!! The conference just started tonight with a keynote by Ann Voskamp and it was awesome! She even quoted from St. Augustine which I really liked. Her talk is supposed to be available online so I’ll post it when it goes up. We also got her new book that is Christmas themed and it looks like a good read.
One thing I didn’t realize about this conference is all the SWAG!! They say to bring room in your suitecase but I didn’t believe it. I probably have gotten more swag than than the cost of my ticket to attend.
ย I finally connected with this professor at school this week and she gave me a lot of information about a trip to Greece she is hosting to get credit for Art History. I don’t necessarily need the class but it sounds like a great experience. One of the islands we get to go to is the same island that the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movies was filmed. She also said that I can change my return ticket so I can go see other things. Super excited about this trip..only took me 10 years to get to study abroad and go to Europe! (better late than never)
One thing I have learned about my current job is that I LOVE non-profits. The organization I work for is HUGE and complicated but it’s a non-profit and we do some amazing things. It’s full of people that LOVE their jobs and have been working there for 5+ years. I met a lady a few months ago that just celebrated her 15 year anniversary with the company.
Every other job I have had over the years was so profit driven the morale wasn’t very good. This company has such a good morale it’s amazing. Although it could also be the difference between working for a large company verses a small company. I don’t know but it’s just awesome. For the first time in my life I look forward to going to work. When I finish school I think I want to look into finding a non-profit that might need a bookkeeper.
So I took my first road trip with my new car this weekend. It was AWESOME. It was a somewhat long drive but the $40 in gas I spent was way better than the $400+ airline ticket. Driving doesn’t really bother me though. I lived 5-7 hours away from the colleges I went to and did the drive often to go home several times a year. And when I was a kid we used to drive to go on vacation at least once a year. I had lots of music and podcasts to listen to to keep my company.
I hope everyone has a good weekend. I’m looking forward to seeing what God has in store for the rest of this conference. And I’m sure I’ll blog about it more next week after I process it all…for now keep an eye on my tweets and the #Allume twitter stream ๐

Do the study abroad! I was actually out of school when I took a trip with a group from my parents’ hometown and loved it so much I actually did the study abroad option during a summer at law school. Love love love getting credit for vacation!

Yeah I always wanted to do it in my undergrad but I had always already taken the classes being offered. They are offering Art History in the Greece Study Abroad that I don’t even need but it sounds really interesting and a lot of the places they are going I know I won’t ever go on my own.
Dude, book swag is the best swag. I’m jealous. ๐

Sp jealous about the conference! The first and last conference I attended was Faith and Family’s “Mom’s Day Out” and it was so, so good. Those things are the best. And your swag? Score!
Yeah I LOVE conferences!! I learn so much and it’s nice to just get away. I know I love all the stuff I’ve gotten!
