I made it to DAY 5 of the 31 Days of Blogging Challenge (barely)
So yesterday I mentioned a plaque that we were looking for a photo of. So let me tell you a little more about this plaque. My dad was a high school science teacher but he was also the director of the high school plays. I was actually in one of them a year or so before he passed away. I don’t even remember the name of the play..I played “little Lucy or miss Lucy…something like that.” I was only in one scene. But they needed a little girl so naturally he used his own LOL. After he passed away they decided to dedicate the auditorium after him and renamed it the “school names my dads name auditorium.” I remember going to the dedication and a bunch of students gave speeches along with colleagues and my mom and they showed a video someone made of him. We still have the video they made on VHS and we want to get it put on a DVD or even just an audio file so we can get it on the website.
It’s been an interesting revelation to create this website as I’ve been getting so many emails and remarks about him that I didn’t know anything about. I was only 8 when he passed away so I didn’t know a lot about what he did or what he meant to other people. Sometimes it seems selfish that he was a person other than my dad but I imagine most 8 year olds don’t really understand what their parents do when they “go to work.”
One thing that I’ve actually liked about this project is it has put my internet stalking skills to use. It’s pretty fun to google his name and see what happens. Today I emailed a girl that is an ACTRESS. Someone interviewed her awhile ago and mentioned my dads name in the interview. My sister actually found the interview on this girls website. So I have emailed her asking if she would let me interview her or write something up. We’ll see if she answers. I also tweeted her asking if she takes interviews and liked her facebook page.
Thank you to The Nester for hosting, head over to her site to read more 31 Days of Blogging challenges and go here if you are just finding my link-up and want to catch up.
I’m enjoying learning about your dad! That is so awesome that his legacy lives on in the theater he taught at! FYI on the VHS; I’d get that done pretty soon. VHS’s don’t have the longest life span and I think you can probably pay someone pretty cheaply to put it on DVD for you (my dad did all ours at home, but then you have to buy the vhs to dvd recorder thing which is more expensive).
