This is the LAST Five Minute Friday of 2013! We are taking December off…it’s nice to take breaks but I’m really sad. I love the community in this link-up and enjoy chatting with them on twitter each week. I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and will see you all back in 2014!! This weeks word is REFLECT – very fitting for the last word of 2013.
2013 has been an interesting year. Nothing like I thought it would be…although I probably say that every year. At the beginning of 2013 I jokingly said that I wanted to write a blog post that went “viral” just as a joke and for fun to see if it would happen. HA yeah it def. DIDN’T HAPPEN! But I really didn’t try either. At the beginning of 2013 I was in a really weird place. A week before Christmas I was told that my job was being eliminated at the end of the year and there was no longer a job for me..Merry Christmas to me…please managers/bosses/CEO’s that are reading this blog DO NOT let someone go the week before Christmas…just wait a few weeks and let them go at the end of January.
Really I wasn’t that happy at that job but it took me a year to get that job..so it was a job. In the course of the job I had decided that I really needed a job where I worked with numbers and data (that I wasn’t currently doing) and decided to go back to school for an Accounting Certificate. In January I started applying for some jobs that “looked interesting” not really expecting to hear from anyone. Yeah God Laughs because I ended up getting a job in March part-time working in the accounting department of a non-profit and it’s the best job I have ever had in the 10 years I’ve been in the work force.
Since then I’ve avoided 2 lay-offs (they almost had to let me go twice but were able to convince the board to keep me until I finish school in May). I visited just about every tourist attraction in St. Augustine, I bought a new car, I went to Allume (yeah I still owe you all a blog post about that), I learned a whole lot about myself, I grew to hate group projects (for the umpteenth time), I started to plan my first European pilgrimage/vacation for May 2014, and started thinking about the future and where I want to be in the coming years and when I graduate in May.
It’s been an interesting year to say the least. My sister also got engaged this year and I have learned a whole lot more about weddings than I care to know and it seriously makes me want to elope when I do get engaged (yeah right I know I won’t do that lol) but for real it has really made me think about all the stupid things that the “wedding industry” says you need and how I want NONE of it.
I’ve also learned a lot about my Dad that passed away in 1994. I had started to create a website in memory of him last year and I hadn’t gotten very far with it. In October for 31 Days of October I decided I was going to work on his website…my dad was a teacher and little did I know that the class of 1993 had their 20 year High School Reunion the first weekend of October and they were talking about him at the reunion and one of his former students decided to google his name and found my website and facebook page! I went from 5 likes to 200 in a week! It created it’s own community. In no time we had people posting pictures and sharing stories together.
That’s what this whole blogging thing is about. The words on the page are just a piece of it. I really feel that blogging is all about the community it creates. It’s about the relationships we make. I can say that some of my closest friends I’ve met via blogging. A lot of good is really happening on the internet (contrary to what the news portrays).
I think good things are going to happen for me in 2014. I feel like 2013 was that TV episode that is just full of “stuff” and “info” and “filler” to get to the deep, important, and awesome climax. Thank you dear readers for sticking with me through the crazyness that is my life..through the ups and downs the interesting and the boring. I pray for you all everyday and that you have a blessed holiday season and ending to 2013 and a wonderful start to 2014.
*DISCLAIMER: Don’t worry this isn’t the last post for 2013 the nature of this post just made it seem that way 😉 and I took way more than 5 minutes to write this but Lisa Jo said it was okay!!*
A five min Friday visitor… all God’s best to you in 2014!
