Hey y’all! My name is Jen and I’m the chica behind ::Meditatio::. (For a basic bio on me, go here.) I’ve “blog-sat” for Beth Anne before and she was kind enough to “blog-sit” for me in December when I was taking a Winter Solstice break while I waited for HP to fix my laptop.
The last post that Beth Anne made was answering questions for various Liebster awards so I thought I’d go ahead and answer her questions with my answers. 🙂
Who is your favorite Actor/Actress?
My favorite actress would be Pauley Perrette who plays Abby on NCIS.
Who is your favorite Saint? Why?
There are so many! I’m Lutheran so our view of saints is that they are amazing examples of faith to emulate. I’m greatly fond of JPII who was just canonized on Sunday and I’m finding that I have an affection for the Theotokos as I’ve become a mom. (For all of Beth Anne’s Catholic readers, “Theotokos” = “Blessed Mother”. It literally means “the God bearer”.) There’s also St. Gianna Molla who I’m looking up to right now as I’m doing the Promise Walk for Preeclampsia this weekend (sponsor me, yo!) and I’ll be speaking about almost dying in childbirth from HELLP Syndrome.
Have you ever been on a pilgrimage? Where?
Not an official one. I gained entrance to Westminster Abbey in London on Holy Saturday 1998 because my mom told the door people that I was a pilgrim so that’s the closest I’ve probably come. It was totally worth it too. I’ve also been to ruins of churches in Ireland and that was an amazing experience because I have a fascination with Celtic Christianity.
What is the most exotic thing you’ve ever eaten?
Probably sea cucumber at a Chinese restaurant in San Francisco when I was a kid and then in 2012 at a wedding. I grew up in northern California so not much is exotic to me. I’ve been eating sushi for probably 25 years and there are probably some nigiri things I’ve eaten that people would consider weird.
What was your favorite TV show growing up?
Pretty much anything that came on ABC on Friday night.
If you won the lottery what would be the first thing you’d do?
Pay off all my debt (car, credit cards, student loans for my husband) and then pay off the mortgages for my parents and my in-laws.
Are you an early bird or night owl?
Total night owl. I hate mornings.
What is your favorite form of social media?
Blogging. I’ve been at it for 13.5 years.
Is there anything you wish you could redo in your life and knowing the outcome would you do it?
Go on the Intervarsity retreats that I missed in college. I think I also would have faced my fear and started going to church with neighbors earlier. (I’m a convert to Christianity.)
If you could event an app what could do ANYTHING what would you like it to do?
I’m not sure. I’m not a smartphone or tablet kind of girl.
What is your favorite type of tourist attraction? (museum, theme park, etc.)
Old houses are wonderful. I also love to explore churches and cathedrals. One of the things I try to do when I travel is check out the local cathedral. I’m not Catholic but it’s amazing to have a glimpse into the faith and history of a place. I’ve also been to a few mosques in Detroit, Toledo, and Columbus, Ohio which were pretty interesting.
I’ll be back here a couple times a week until Beth Anne gets back. In the meantime, pray for travel mercies for her as she’s flying to Greece tonight/today!
