MORNINGS
I’ll be the first to admit that I am NOT a morning person at all. So if I don’t have somewhere to be you probably won’t hear from me until noon. I don’t work a regular 9-5 job either so this kind of works to my advantage. I’m a virtual assistant/social media manager[analyst]/content editor/admin/bookkeeper/freelance writer. I do a lot of different things. And I do it all from home or a computer with an internet connection. I’m a contractor for a few different clients and I set my own hours so I don’t have to work 9-5 which is awesome and bad at the same time. It’s awesome because i don’t have to get up at 7am if I don’t want to but it’s bad because sometimes it’s hard for me to get up at a reasonable hour.
AFTERNOONS
One of the awesome things about my flexible work schedule is I can schedule doctor appointments, car appointments, and other errands for during the day and not have to worry about taking time off work. If I don’t have anything to do I will work on client work, check emails, social media, etc. I try and make a todo list everyday to keep me on task. {Keyword: TRY}
EVENINGS
In the evenings I will work on client work, eat dinner, catch up with my roommates, or go to meetings/speakers/etc. It just depends what is going on in life. The first Wednesday of every month the Young Adults have Casual Conversations with the Pastor. We meet at a restaurant and eat dinner and ask our pastor anything we want. Our priest tells us that is the highlight of his month and really enjoys talking with us as we all have interesting questions. I think it’s also partly because we aren’t complaining about anything like some of the “older” parishioners and we’re all really positive. Other nights I have events like Theology on Tap, YELP events, dinners, meeting my mom for dinner, etc.
LATE NIGHT
In the late evening after I come home from any events or meetings I will do whatever chores around the house that need to be done. Then I’ll do client work again and catch up with my boss vis Facebookmessenger with anything that needs to be done or questions I have. I really don’t work as many hours as this post makes it sounds. I do a lot of multi-tasking with twitter/instagram/facebook/games interruptions.
After all that I will Skype with my Catholic Match friends or chat with them in the chatroom. I haven’t had many dates or successful relationships from online dating but I’ve met a ton of friends and we all chat almost every night on Skype. Since I don’t have a lot of social interaction during the day since I work from home and don’t have a thriving social life I see that as a big part of my social interaction for the day/week. I love how with technology your best friends don’t have to live next door and can live across the country! Although at the same time that sometimes can be the worst part about relationships.
I’m usually up into the very late hours of the night working on client work, playing games, talking to my late night friends, or just wasting time. Hmm I know I’m a big time waster and procrastinator but I am going to enjoy it now while I’m single and don’t have as many responsibilities as other people.
What is the favorite part of your day? I love that my day is so flexible 90% of the day and I don’t have to get up at a certain hour and can make my own schedule.
What is your least favorite part of your day? I sometimes get really lonely working from home. It comes in phases. I really like what I do and refuse to get a “regular job” that I’ll hate just to interact with people. Sometimes I am really bad about getting out of the house and most of the time I force myself to do so. I say it all the time but I need to get better about getting myself out there and interacting with people.
Any changes to my daily routine? I really want to get on a better schedule where I’m getting up a little earlier and not staying up so late. It’s a big struggle for me and I know it’s something I really need to work on. I like Jen’s idea about no screens in bed. I’m not that bad at night but sometimes in the morning I’ll waste way too much time checking everything before getting out of bed and then end up getting behind and late on things.
All the website managing, editing, etc. that you do sounds impressive! That must be a lot of work to balance and prioritize. Have you taken your laptop to a coffee shop to work? It sounds like your job would be a fun one to be able to take wherever to whichever setting you choose!
Yes. Sometimes I do have trouble with time management and prioritizing things or just getting distracted. I recently found a coworking office. It’s made for people that work from home or work for themselves. You can pay about $20 a day and use one of their desks, internet, printer, etc. I’m going to start going there a few days a week so I can get out of the house and have a change of scenery.
I’ve gone to coffee shops or panera every now and then but lately every time I go they are full of people having meetings and it tends to get loud.
