I had my last 3 wisdom teeth removed yesterday and hopefully I am still alive. There is something about telling people you are going to have a dental procedure that makes them tell you about their moms friends sister who’s head fell off afterwards. Really people? Is that helpful? Not in my book but hey to each their own.
The OLYMPICS started last Friday. I’m not big into sports but there is something about the olympics that brings everyone together. Last week while the opening ceremony was on I saw a lot of people posting on facebook about it. But then I saw a former college classmate post this awesome link! There are 7 former students participating in the OLYMPICS! None of them are competing for the United States but it is still cool. They are all Track & Field players and one of the olympians, Sally, actually attended Texas Tech while I attended. I remember she was in the school paper a lot and broke a TON of records while I attended. In one article I remember them asking her if she’ll ever get to the olympics…well here she is!
A few days ago I was going through my email and found this article entitled, “The Role of the Church in the Olympics.” I thought it was very interesting how it compares the Olympic games to our faith. And you all thought you were just watching for entertainment!
Speaking of entertainment I’m not sure which is more entertaining…actually watching the olympics or watching everyone on facebook and twitter complain about all the spoilers they have been finding about The Olympics. Personally I have been one to google SPOILERS for years! Sometimes it’s more fun to watch the olympics after I know who wins.
Nerd Alert: I used to google spoilers and rumors about the Harry Potter books before they were movies. Specifically when there was that long 4 yr period between books 3 and 4. And I’m still annoyed that the last word of book 7 isn’t SCAR like all the rumors/spoilers said!
On Wednesday night I went to a “Listening Session” that the Bishop of the diocese invited me (and every other parishioner of the diocese) to. They are having 8 sessions altogether. It was very eye opening. I am still amazed at how many people don’t even read the bulletin! Many of the things that the people were looking for are already offerred in many parishes. I also was glad to see that many people talked about things that were on my list of improvements and hope that the diocese is able to do something to accomodate them. This is part of a 5 year plan the bishop is creating.
My mom briefly spoke to someone who has been to some of the other sessions and she said that our group was actually VERY calm compared to the group they listened to earlier in the week. All I can say is our bishop needs TONS of prayers and has some big shoes to fill!
One of the quotes the priest that MC’ed last nights session was, “Fulfill the mandate of the Gospel!” I LOVE that quote! There is something about it that really struck me as beautiful after he said it several times.
My NEW favorite app on my phone is VIGGLE. I tried really hard to write a whole post about it but I ran out of time before my surgery. Once I start feeling better I am going to finish it. If you join now during the Olympics you get TONS of extra points!!

I love that your bishop is offering those sessions, especially since he probably knows how much crap he’ll have to hear during them lol! But it’s awesome that he is letting the people feel heard!

I know me 2! I love that he cares enough to ask for the input vs just doing what he thinks should be done.
I totally google spoilers. I just can’t wait til 11 at night to see what happens!
Hope your mouth heals fast!
