I’ve been thinking about something lately.
Why does everything we do have to be entertaining?
Everyday I hear about people not doing things – going to school, church, work, etc – because they are boring.
But when did we start only doing “fun” things?
If we only did “fun” and “entertaining” things nothing would ever get done and we’d all be sitting in the dark because no one would pay their bills.
Life and relationships are all about give and take and SACRIFICE!
We need to sacrifice things like time, money, people and other boring obligations.
When we sacrifice these things when we get to do something fun or entertaining the reward is 10x better!
What a great thought. Why DOES everything have to entertain us or be fun? I know when I just “do” something, the experience isn’t lost on me, and I come away realizing how glad I am I did whatever it was.

Yup! I think there is something to learn from every life experience!

I take the Mary Poppins approach, i.e. “In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun. You find the fun, and SNAP! The job’s a game!” In other words, if something I have to do (e.g. go to the dentist, pay my taxes, etc.) is a drag, I try to make it entertaining. Beats the heck out of moaning and griping about it.

I agree! Complaining about boring things isn’t fun. One of the best things I did for managing my finances/paying bills was to get budgeting software. It makes it more fun than before.

I totally agree! I definitely enjoy watching television a lot more when I’m not watching television all of the time.

Agreed! I think when we do some things all the time like watch TV or go to the movies it’s no longer all that enjoyable.

It’s true. You need to allow yourself to experience boredom and put in those grueling, hardworking hours in order to truly appreciate entertainment when it comes to us.

It’s true, we seem to have turned into a society where we all NEED to be entertained every second and what we get is never enough. It seems to me that we enjoy the fun things so much more when we’ve worked hard to get there. I’ve tried to teach my kids that and, so far, it seems to be sinking in.
