I’ve been slacking on my blog lately so decided to jump in Five Minute Friday as a quick way to get back into blogging again. My Thursday evenings have been so busy I keep missing the twitter chats. I miss my #FMFParty friends! *waves*
GO
WORLD. The WORLD is huge. I can remember as a little kid being obsessed with maps and globes and just staring at them for hours on end. As a child my family loved to travel and we would travel at least once a year to a different vacation destination. Most of the time it wasn’t more than 10 hours away from home but even locally there is so much to see and learn and experience just be getting out of your local backyard.
As I got older and learned more about the world, other countries, cultures and my faith I had a strong desire to one day visit Europe. I wanted to see the places I saw in movies and read about in books. I wanted to see the home of my Catholic Faith and see the Pope! I wanted to visit the famous churches you see on TV like Notre Dame and St. Peter’s Basilica. I wanted to see the homes of the famous saints I pray to like St. Francis of Assisi and St. Therese of Lisiuex.
Then finally all the stars aligned and last May I spent three glorious weeks traveling around Europe by plane, train, and bus. It was magical and better than I ever imagined. I finally saw so many of the beautiful things that I had only seen in pictures or in movies. And in real life they are 10x more magnificent. And it only made me want to go back and see more!
My favorite quote about travel comes from St. Augustine.
The world is a big place. I encourage you to go out and explore it. If you can’t afford to go to another continent stick with your local area or even your hometown there is so much to see and do you’ll never know what you’ll find!
STOP
Hi I’m visiting your blog from Five Minute Friday (#63). I like your post, and the St Augustine quote. I’ve not travelled much but I think you’re right- there is so much we can learn from experiencing different cultures, or even just paying more attention to what’s around us.

Thanks for the comment! I agree just looking around locally you can learn a lot about culture and the world…depending on where you live.

The world IS huge. I want to travel too. But it seems like I only ever get to see family on vacation. Maybe one day.
Hugs,

I feel your pain! When I was in high school I felt like all our vacations were to see family and it sucked not getting to go to cool places…now we seem to be able to travel with our relatives/meet up half-way so it’s more fun!

I love that quote as well! And this post… I remember your travels through Europe and all you got to experience! So fun to be able to share in that as well… but still – it’s better to experience it oneself! I want to read chapters and chapters, not just a page or two! 😉

I do love when bloggers and books talk about traveling but agree it’s more fun to experience first hand…I’m with you I want to read all the pages!
