I have a weird request readers. This April is the 20 year anniversary of my Dad’s passing and I want to have 20+ masses said in his memory all over the world the week/month of his passing. If you are willing to do this for me please email me at bethannesbest at gmail dot com and I will send you more information. I will forever be indebted to you for your help!
I have chosen a word of the year (but haven’t blogged about it yet). My word is GO! I picked it due to all the traveling I will be doing this Spring/Summer. I’ve been putting it off/saving for it for YEARS and I’m finally taking the plunge and going to see all the places I’ve wanted to see and go for years…it’s a little scary but exciting at the same time. But don’t worry I’ll be blogging all about it on the way and when I get back.
I set a goal to read 5 books this year. I did really bad in 2013 on the reading front and I want to get back into reading more in 2014. I decided if I say I’ll read 5 books I have a high chance of that actually happening. I also created a Pinterest Board to keep track.
I bought a Saint book last year at a conference and it has been really fascinating to read through the saints and the activities. I’d LOVE to teach a class all about saints. There are so many to learn about! I always enjoy going through Jen’s Saint Generator just to learn about all the different saints that are out there!
I’ve even thought about making a series on the blog about saints or a separate blog/website to even teach this class. Last week I was reading about my confirmation saint (St. Therese) and I came to find out that she is sometimes referred to as a Patron Saint of Writers. I had no idea! I thought that was really neat since I am a writer blogger.
It’s funny when I picked her as my confirmation saint when I was 14 I really didn’t know much about her I honestly just liked the name Teresa and my mom said my dad liked her so I picked her but little by little she has really helped me in my life throughout the way.
I’ve been on a big podcast kick lately. It’s easy to listen to them at work. I found one called, How they Blog a few months ago and it’s all about women bloggers. She’s had episodes of just tips and ideas and others with guests. A few weeks ago she had an episode all about social media and she talked about email being the FIRST Social Network. It got me thinking and inspired a Nostalgic past at my Social Media Life.
I sent out 2 boxes for Operation Christmas Child this year and I sent a ton of stuff home with my Confirmation kids and the faith formation kids and we sent a total of 10 boxes! Next year we want to have a packing party and even have a guest speaker come in. We talked with the lady at the drop off site for awhile and she was willing to come speak to the kids. Next year I want to go up to Atlanta over Thanksgiving and volunteer in the processing center and eventually I want to go on a mission trip to deliver the boxes to kids.
I tracked my box again this year and my boxes made it to MADAGASCAR this year! 250,000 boxes made it this year and almost 2 million have gone there since 1996. If you click the link you can read more about OCC and Madagascar along with some videos.

I would love to teach a class on the saints! They are so cool and exciting – I think it would help students delve deeper into the faith and have role models to look to!

I LOVE your word for the year!
Also, what is the Saints book you have? I would like to read one, but I often find saint biographies confusing or boring (or both).

I really like the book of saints for catholic moms…but the book I got recently is really more of an activity book to teach it to classes/kids. It goes through the church calendar of feast days. Each saint has 1 page all about them and 1 page with reflection/activity ideas. I would buy it just to read through even though it’s more of a teaching book..plus you could do some of the activities at home once your daughter got older 🙂
Here is a link to the book I have. http://www.amazon.com/Saints-Feast-Days-Resource-Activity/dp/082941505X
Love this post! I worked for OCC in 2012 when I first lost my job and it was awesome! Amazing stories, great volunteers, and truly life-changing work…for me and for the kids who receive shoe boxes. Definitely go volunteer in a processing center. It gives you an amazing picture of how the gospel is going to the ends of the earth in something as simple as a shoe box.

I’ve already told my mom I’m going to Atlanta next Thanksgiving to work at the processing center! I love the organization we’re going to have a packing party at our church.
